You shouldn't have to. Just replace the "fastfilesystem" on the RDB from

Hi Ben

No it doesn't Ben (and Simon's explanation was far from clear on this
matter). I actually have two drives connected to my Catweasel MK2, one of
which is also linked to the Kylwalda to work as DF0: Even in this
configuration, you can still only boot using a DD format disk. High-density
operation does not become available until after the Catweasel DOSDrivers and
patches have been loaded, which means you can't boot with a HD disk :(
Sadly the Catweasel's HD operation is restricted to use under AmigaOS (it
does offer a memory resident soft option, but it doesn't work at all well).
Use under emulation is possible, though equally cumbersome, and most
importantly, it is an expensive way to get this kind of functionality.
The PowerXL interface approach at least offers 100% compatibility and works
as a direct replacement for a native Amiga-compatible drive.
I'm not saying it is the best solution - but the XL interface is the
simplest we've seen so far.

Yes, and Tony's stopped doing them because he was selling so few as to make

2,999 to the nearest hundered is 3,000, so the cd case would say more than

I always mail or phone the authours first to make sure they still take reges
and that the address is still valid, if there's no response after a few
tries, I'll assume its dead in the water. The Visualprefs guy replied the

It's =A350, and you'll be getting a fully working TESTED non beta of the FS=
=2E=20
You wouldn't want your hard drive dying would you?
And there's far more to it than that - what with glowicons (they're not
just newicons), an arexx port on workbench, a shed full of bug fixes (okay
it's a small shed), latest versions of programs, and then there's the
plethora of extras on the CD and the little things like being able to drag
a drawer from ram to the same root where that drawer already exists, and
it'll update all the files in sub dirs! That in itself is a real time
saver - no more having to wade through the hierarchy just to get to the
files you want =2E=2E=2E

Well he was selling the interface pre-bundled with an overpriced floppy
drive for a total of 60 (about 20 OTT, based on the rough pricing I did of
the components in the one I used to have) - Which was a bit steep and could
well have been a contributing factor to its poor sales. A better option
might have been (or may be in the future) to sell the interface on its own,
like the Kylwalda is sold.
But this will probably never happen - so I'll shut up now :)

Relativity is simple when you thick about it. First imagine you are
looking at a clock, this clock tells you the time in the Lab FOR
(Frame Of Referance) you know the time beause you are reciving
information from it at the speed of light (photons) light travels at
c no matter what FOR you are in. You also have a wrist watch which
tells you the time in your FOR. Now start moving away from the clock,
it takes longer for the photons to reach you as they have to travel
longer so time in the Lab FOR time appers to slow down. You look at
your watch and it is not slowing down becase it is moving with you it
is in your FOR. If someone was standing in the Lab FOR they would see
the opposite becuse your watch is moving away photons take long to
reach them. To them time is slowing in your FOR hence everything is
relative.
Now on to not being able to go faster then light. F=ma that is force =
mass * accleration. As you approch the speed of light your mass
apparently increasses in terms of the F=ma equation anyway. As you get
nearer c your mass tends towards infinaty which requires an infinite
force (which is of impossible). A to think about it is that you are on
a swing there is some one pushing you the F in the equation, as you
swing faster they have less time to push each push therefore it
requires more force for the accleration to be the same to blance the
equation your mass must increase at the speed of light the timeto push
you becomes infinatly small so is immposible to reach.
Einstien never said it was impossible to break the light barraier.

But to qualify for a physics degree you must have bad spelling ;)
Hey, we've now also got an easy to understand standard response to all

As the Christian calender came into use long after the
death of Christ, we can decide for ourselves when we
would like the new millennium to start.
It makes sense to let it coincide with the numerical
change, ie: 2000. After all it's just a convention.
However, the "true" believers had their celebration in
the nineties, just as you have indicated.

Well, its not how I'd explain it. I would have probably used an
explaination which involves the point that light always reaches you at
c, whatever the speed of the source. To do this time, space and mass
become distorted.
Oh, and c is only an upper speed limit for tadyons =)

If ADSL is unavailable in my area, (quite probable), I'll just get ISDN

In that case, you didn't upgrade correctly. The "*-36" dates show that
THOR is using an old version of utnet.library.

The PC version I have is on a CD =) And it doesn't have the nav aid. Or
compatible save positions =(
If theyd made the game bigger (like monkey island sized) they could have
made it much bigger and more indepth. Personally I'd like to see a net
version. Unfortunatley it would be imposible to have time acceleration
in a net game, so all the ships would have to much faster, or else stay
online for days getting from planet to planet and system to system.
Well, Id be happy with a simple combat flight sim, like airwarrio, for
now.

Incidentally, how much does it cost to connect via H/Highway on the
D-Channel (16Kbps) My ISP supports connection keepalive via this channel, so
you can shut down both B-Channels (The expensive ones) & keep the connection
running, and only connect (Instantaneously, It's ISDN remember) when someone
needs to send/recieve something.

Subject: [afb] Welcome message
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Hi all,
Here's my first draft of a welcome message for all new members of afb. I'd
appreciate any feedback you'd care to give:
---8<---
Welcome to afb!
Please don't delete this message! If you want to unsubscribe from afb, it
will
tell you what to do! Just keep it to one side, in your archived folder, or
somesuch.
Since the list is pretty high on traffic, I think you should know what to
expect on your first day on the list. Here is a list of points to bear in
mind.
They aren't in any particular order, so just read through them all:
*Unsubscribing* You don't actually have to unsubcribe from the list if the
traffic is too high for you, you can just switch your subscription to being
web-based, or a daily digest. If you really do want to unsubscribe, go to
http://www.egroups.com/group/afb/
*Delayed Posting* afb has a lot of messages every day. If you don't have a
permanent
network connection, you'll find that it pays to read through all the mails
before replying, since the question you are replying to may well have
already
been answered several times in the time between you receiving the initial
mail
and your reply.
*Polls* If you want to set a poll, have a careful think about it first. Mill
the question over in your mind and work out how you can best word it to fit
into a maximum of eight choices for an answer. Once you've done that, think
again on how you want to word your question so that no-one can pick a hole
in
it and say they would have chosen an option you didn't include. After that
bit,
fill out the form on the website for creating a poll, but remember to put a
date in your text! Look at the other polls on the page already for guidance
on
where to put it, and remember, if your poll doesn't have a date, it'll get
cancelled.
*Quoting* Please pay attention to how others quote on the list. We don't
like
PC-style quoting of the entire message with your reply at the top. We also
don't like "proper"-style quoting yet, with the entire original message
quoted.
There are plenty of folk on the list who have to pay to download messages,
don't make them pay more than they have to.
*Writing* If you're going to post, please wait a moment before sending it.
Does
it add to the information on afb, or merely repeat it? Are you going to
insult
someone (don't do it!)? Check your spelling and grammar, I don't think that
many on the list are English graduates, but even so.
*Replying* Make sure you quote properly (qv.), make sure you don't insult
people, make sure your reply is necessary and that someone hasn't already
given
the info.
*MANAGER posts* Please make sure you read them. There'll be a concrete
reason
for them, so you can guarantee they'll be important.
*Moderation* There is a limit of 150 posts per day on afb. The daily limit
is
from 8AM to 8AM GMT the following day (because of the fact that eGroups are
based
on the west coast of the States and are thus eight hours behind GMT). If you
receive a moderation message, this isn't a cue for you to ask the list owner
why you are being moderated (the reason for moderation is almost always
given
in the moderation message body). Just wait and if your message is really
worth
it, re-post the following day.
*Bouncing* If you find that messages aren't getting to you, simply send
yourself a message from the afb website at
http://www.egroups.com/group/afb/.
That usually clears up your bouncing. Bouncing status is checked every so
often
anyway, so it's unlikely this will happen.

It's dead Jim. If you can get it to spin up for long enough to retrieve

But then you're going to get into a whole load of fun...should the ISP pay
for the FTP client because that's what they decided to use for users to
upload their webpages? Should any company manufacturing radios pay for the
electricity required to run them because that's how they decided to make it
work? Should the games coders who decide to make their games PPC only,
provide the end users with PPC cards? Should car dealers provide a life's
time supply of petrol, because that's what their cars run on?
Most of the internet software available for the miggy simply wouldn't be
possible without MUI, it's all well and good arguing about it...but
Gadtools is very dated and limited...hell, it doesn't even have font
sensitivity...it's up to the programmer to put that in.

Hi peeps,
Having just installed DpaintV from the CD version, it refuses to use
the media types.
Materials work fine, but when I choose a medium I get an error:
"Can't open media DPaintV:Media/FeltTip"
or whatever medium I chose.
Checking snoopdos, it seems to be looking for the file "FeltTip" in
the current dir, the libs subdir, in libs: and in libs:libs and fails
on all counts
I tried assigning the directory containing the media types files with
Libs: add and snoopdos reported OK, but Dpaint still failed.
Any ideas?

This could be the output from your miffy or the low refresh rate. First, try
setting it to a higher rate by using an ntsc screen rather than pal. The
other problem causes vertical lines which dont move though, so I doubt its
that.

Funny you should mention this. I bought a 10.2Gb hard drive from
'PeeCee Wurld' (sorry) and after installing it (as a secondary master)
and installing all my software it squeeked and squeeled and stopped.
This was only after a week!
The drive was a 'Western Digital', even though they are supposed to be
the
best.
Just shows that you can't trust those second rate shops (compared to
Amiga ones).

Nick.

Yes, Make sure that your file is cased correctly. i.e. "FeltTip".
These files are case sensitive for some reason; and IIRC the cd
version has this file incorrectly cased.

Yes, you will ned not download the latest version of Voyager (The full
non-beta) as the one on the NC3 CD does not work (Or Webvision). You may as
well download all of the latest programs though.

Hey, nice! Thanks Eddie, I didn't see that stuffed between those two

You'll just have to wait (and wait a bit longer, I'm afraid) and see.
But believe me, it'll be quite a nice surprise. Sort of. Depending on

But we're talking about rounding, and (for some reason unknown to me)

I've tried FeltTip and FELTTIP (as on the CD) and neither work.
Nor do Oil or OIL
Nor WaterColor or WATERCOLOR
Nor Chalk or CHALK :(
DPaint says it can't open whatever file I have chosen, even matching
the case I have the file in.
Could you give me an example?

All very well having a net version, but did anyone ever answer an SOS

I have a Rev 2B, classic Squirrel works fine with Apolo '040 with 32Meg, my
old overdrive (Archos pcmcia HD jobby) doesn't work with either the Apolo
or Blizzard 1230IV with 4Meg. Still, only use it as a backup drive.

URI - Universal Resource Indicator
URL - Universal Resource Locator
The first is a more generic term. Put another way, URL is a specific
instance of a URI. However, last time I looked, there were no other
instances of a URI so the two terms are often used interchangeably.

The other type of URI is a URN. The idea behind a URN is that you don't
specify where you get the file from, only what you want. Alough,
uncannily, most URNs that I've seen to remarkably similar to URLs ;)
i.e. I want to search a dictionary for fish I type
urn:dictionary://fish Where the dictionary isn't a fixed resource. As
usual with most w3 org ideas they don't fit in too well with the real
world.

Chris

No it doesn't. It just means stating the number within restricted limits
of accuracy. A number rounded to three decimal places doesn't have to
end in zero. In this case, the rounding was to the nearest hundred, and
99 is the end of a hundred if you start counting at zero :)
> Paul C, getting fed up with just a few /too/ many numbers
There would be more if it weren't for the rounding :)

You will also need the latest MicroDot, the one on the CD can no longer
post news as it is not Y2K compliant.
